Two images added to the Color Photography gallery. I saw a very beautiful sunset last night while visiting my parents.

A turning point perhaps

On Monday Kimi and I drove over to the Compusa in Emeryville, they’re closing down and we wanted to see what sort of deals they might have. As it turns out, not a lot at that point. We’ll check again in a few days and see what we can score.

A half block away we saw the Pixar Animation studio. It was pretty grand looking with a big archway and everything, I felt chills. I’ve always been so impressed with their storytelling and seeing how close they were to where I live really made the place seem approachable. I’m thinking of trying to get a job there. I do have some qualms about working for such a large company, but I’ll talk about that at another point.

I’ve always had a hard time disciplining myself and it has hurt my progress in the arts. I want to get better at drawing and animation, but I don’t put serious time into working on those skills. Instead I sit at my desk and think how much I want to be drawing, but I don’t draw. I have a mental wall that keeps me from getting started.

If I want to have any chance at working for a company such as Pixar I really need to focus. And so I’m going to try and do that. I have some story ideas I’ve had percolating in my mind that I’ll use as a training ground.

A sigh of relief

I’m all done with school for the moment, I’ve got a nice long break ahead of me. I’m really looking forward to enjoying this break, but I’m also really excited by the classes I’ll be taking in the spring: Drawing Perspective, Figure Modelling, Advanced Animation and Intro to Anatomy.

As our final project in Analysis of Form we had to do a portrait from a photograph. Here’s what I did for mine. 18″ X 24″ Charcoal

That Just About Does It

Only one more day of the semester left, then I can finally breathe. I’ve finished my film, my animation and turned in my figure drawing portfolio. On Thursday I’ll be turning in my portrait for analysis of form.

Finals

I’ve been really busy with school the past couple of weeks, I have a number of final projects due next week. It’ll be nice to get those finished up, then I can relax for a month.

My trip to the Berkeley marina went nicely. It was really cold, but pretty out. We also came across some guys fishing. They hooked something large as we were walking by, so we hung around to see what it was. Turned out they had caught a stingray of all things, it was pretty crazy. I got some photos.

I have a lot of content I’ve been wanting to add, just haven’t had the energy to devote to the site. I look forward to getting back to that in the next week or two.
