Daily… A giraffe
I spent a while sketching the Giraffes at the Oakland Zoo on Monday. I did a number of sketches trying to figure out what shapes they were made up of.

Daily… Pencils
I recently got a utrecht brand 2b pencil, it was feeling really nice when sketching on tracing paper. With that one pencil I could get nice lights and darks, it went on the paper really smooth. I noticed though that when I used it in my sketchbook, I wasn’t getting the same range of tone (in general it was much lighter). My sketchbook paper is much rougher than the tracing paper, I’m thinking that might be what’s causing the difference.
I bought a faber castell brand 2b pencil today and was trying that one out in my sketchboook, much nicer results! I’ll have to try this pencil out on tracing paper and see how it feels.

Daily… A creature sketch
I’ve been drawing a lot more in my sketchbook. I’ve recently been working on tracing paper, the current pencil I’m working with shades quite nicely on it. This was such a sketch, brought into painter and toned a bit more.

Yes, another monster.
Wouldn’t it be neat if there was a story that focused on the daily life of monsters? They’d go to work and live out their lives just like we do. Maybe they’d incorporate their businesses and stuff. Oh, wait…

Daily… A windy day
I’m trying to get myself to do more storytelling in my images. I have a tendency to draw my characters in more static poses. I think that’s because I’m working so hard on just drawing a character, I’m keeping it as simple as possible. I’d like to get away from that.

Daily… Watchmen
We watched the watchmen tonight, this was my second viewing (I’ve still yet to read the book, I need to get on that!). It didn’t have the same impact as the first viewing, but I still enjoy it quite a bit.

I’m not sure why, but when I draw whales I really like to draw them rather square.
