Buried under an avalanche of drawings…

I’ve joined the ranks of the many artists I follow by having my “I’m still here!” post. Woo! Here I am. In my last post I had mentioned that I had to take my computer into the shop. It took just over a week to get it back, but I didn’t lose any data. The video card was the issue as I had thought.

I’ve kept up with my daily images, just not the posting of them. I’ll be getting the backlog of them posted in the coming week or so. I’ve finally got them all uploaded, I just don’t want to post 30+ in one day. I figure I’ll do around 4 or 5 a day until I get caught up.

It’s raining out

I had to take my computer into the shop over the weekend. Quite suddenly the display started acting up leading me to think it was video card related. I usually run my iMac in windows, but booted into OSX to see if the problem persisted. It did. Luckily my computer is still covered by applecare. I made a mad dash to the apple store before they closed and checked it in. The tech seemed to think the problem was related to either the video card or possibly the logic board. Hopefully the repair won’t take too long, it’s really throwing off my routine being without my main computer.

I was able to quickly backup all my work data, but nothing else before taking it in. Hopefully I’ll have all my data after the repair, but this was a reminder that I need to backup my data regularly. I’m going to look into a network hard drive so I can easily use it from any of the comps in the house. I have no idea what brand or model to go with, time to do some research. Anyone have any recommendations? I’m looking at spending under $200 and want at least 1TB.

And it’s raining out. There’s quite a storm blowing through. I’ve really been enjoying the dramatic views and I love the sound of the rain, but it sucks getting drenched. I don’t like when a simple walk to the store requires hours of drying my clothes.

Daily… Professor frank

Frank is a professor of music. Today was the first day of school. Many of the students are still learning how to play their instruments. Frank needs a drink.

Hey, look at me!

A month or so ago Adam Ford asked his readers to link their drawings to his blog, he’d choose one and paint it up. He ended up choosing mine and this is the result! I’ve always appreciated his painting style and the level he’s working at is one that I hope to reach.

Back for more

Well there I went again, falling behind in posting my daily images. Feels nice to be up to date again. How can I keep on top of it? Just need to draw earlier in the day! Invariably the reason I fall behind is by doing any of these drawings in the last twenty minutes before I go to bed. By that time I’m crashing fast and do a quick sketch, then collapse. So here’s to continuing to work towards not doing that anymore.

I had my first Pixar class last Tuesday evening, I’m really not used to night classes any longer! When I first started at this school I had lots of night classes, but eventually shifted towards early morning. It was much harder to actively concentrate, I need to have coffee a little later in the day and make sure to eat a good meal before heading to class. That’ll keep me charged up!

The class is really focused on the fundamentals of animation. My animation classes the past few semesters have been focused on more advanced topics and it’ll be really helpful for me to get back to the core skill set that I need to build.

Over at Sketchoholic they’ve started running drawing marathons during the week. The format is very similar to the Intensity Club or ChiuStream, in which there’s a topic that you have one hour to draw or paint for. In the case of the marathon, whoever gets the most votes chooses the next topic. They’ll run these back to back, usually doing around 2 to 3 at a time. I’ve started attending as much as my schedule allows and I want to keep up on it as much as I can, it’s really helpful to work with these types of deadlines.
