Daily… What is that thing?
I was doing my usual thing, starting to paint without a clear goal in mind, aside from doing a lighting study. I quickly blocked in the silhouette, but had no idea what it was yet. I knew I wanted to go with some sort of creature, so I placed the eyes in quickly and then started to build up light and shadow in a sculptural way. Towards “the end” I felt it, as a subject, was too undefined (I really didn’t know what it was and it just didn’t speak to me). I started adding in more details, like the hands, suggestion of tail and legs as well as the eyes and fur for the second character.
It’s still pretty up in the air as to what’s going on, what they or it is, but now I feel it has character to it and perhaps some suggestion of story!
Photoshop, around 30mins.

Daily… A demon or fairy
Had some fun with a textured brush in Photoshop, trying to suggest a figure coming out of smoke or something.
I’ve been doing quick figure studies in-between my work projects. They’re coming along, but drawing/painting the figure is incredibly difficult for me. In this piece, I wanted to get away from a specific idea of form. I started with large abstract shapes for the smoke and then started to lightly suggest the figure with little hints of light. It’s simple, but it’s neat to apply what I’ve been learning in the studies to a personal piece.

Daily… Fairy godmother
Done for the Intensity Club, the topic was “Fairy Godmother”. I’m really not too pleased with how she turned out, but I like the little guy. Overall this piece felt like drawing fail, where it just wasn’t clicking.
I don’t like her eyes and the arm holding the wand is way out of proportion compared to the other. I also feel the need to practice drawing clothing, because her outfit is so boring. There’s like absolutely no detail work on it (lace, embroidery, or what have you).

Daily… A bird and two zombies
A surprise meeting between a bird and two zombies. Well, it was a surprise for the bird, the zombies took it all in stride.

Daily… A crocodile in a hoodie
It was supposed to be an eskimo outfit, but I didn’t have reference at the time and couldn’t remember what it looked like!

Daily… A space dude
After the fact, reminds me of Scruffy from Futurama. Not what I had in mind, but I’m sure I was unconsciously influenced by his character design.

Daily… Can I keep him?
What happens when an alien tries to bring home a new pet? I don’t actually have the answer, I was hoping you did!
