I started carrying the Nintendo DS with me again, doing little environment paintings/color studies on the BART using the Colors! app. I popped this into photoshop when I got home and touched it up a bit and tried to clarify parts. It’s still looking a little flat to me, in particular the foreground screen right. I’m liking the volcano smoke plume and the shadow side.

I found out about a free program for the NDS called Colors!. You need a flashcart and a microSD card to get started and then it’s just a drag and drop process to install everything. I’m very impressed.
Colors! is a very simple painting program with pressure sensitivity on both brush size and opacity. I love how easy it makes it do paint on the go. I take the DS with me everywhere now and sketch away. I’ll post a how-to in a few days.
