Daily… Portrait studies

Lots of head studies today, trying to put the time into learning how to draw people.

Daily… A figure

A quick figure sketch from a visual reference book. Still a long way to go

Daily… Some figures

I started sketching from a book of foreshortening trying to work on my figure drawing. With the figure on the right I tried to simplify and exaggerate the forms. A good start, but I need to be doing pages of these! Here’s to taking these small steps though.

Daily… A demon or fairy

Had some fun with a textured brush in Photoshop, trying to suggest a figure coming out of smoke or something.

I’ve been doing quick figure studies in-between my work projects. They’re coming along, but drawing/painting the figure is incredibly difficult for me. In this piece, I wanted to get away from a specific idea of form. I started with large abstract shapes for the smoke and then started to lightly suggest the figure with little hints of light. It’s simple, but it’s neat to apply what I’ve been learning in the studies to a personal piece.

Clothed figure studies

Two of the drawings from last nights class that I liked.
