Sortof a lighting study, but without any reference. Just trying to push myself to be able to paint without any reference, but still get a nice quality to the work. Still feels really rough, but I think I like the direction it’s headed.

Daily… A wizard with a cautionary tale about backups
This morning I checked the status of my iMac repair, it was ready for me to pick up! I had to wait for Kimi to get home in the evening so I could drive over to Emeryville. I was gathering reference material on my laptop from a random website and got hit by a virus via an ad. Suck! I thought to myself though, how funny is that? One computer gets fixed, the other breaks down?
I did a quick backup of my laptop and restored it to factory defaults. Of course during the re-install, I realized I had missed a file (to backup). When my computers are running smoothly I think about the need to backup all my files, but I make plans to do so later. Everything’s okay now, I have time to wait! Well, later is when your computer isn’t working. So my cautionary tale suggests that you backup sooner than later!
Well I have all my computers back and running. They replaced the video card on my iMac leaving everything else intact. Time to follow my own advice and backup the rest of my files.
Daily… Oil sketches
I did a few sketches today with oils, it was fun working with no particular goal in mind. It was a nice way to just play with the medium.
I didn’t want to wait to photograph and post these later, so I’m dealing with less than ideal images. On the second sketch I ended up doing a few paint-overs to help figure out where I might want to take the sketch.
I was just working on canvas paper again and used a limited palette, pretty much just used white, black, and burnt sienna, plus a bit of blue for the background (greyed down).
