Daily… Portrait of a creature
It was a pretty neat process for me that this sketch went through. I started with my usual warm up drawing style of random lines and abstract shapes. After a while I saw what could be an eye and while I had planned on using this sketch to just warm up my muscles, I just kept with it. I went a little crazy and was even using an eraser, redrawing , erasing, redrawing as I developed the overall shape of the eventual creature. That seems like an obvious process, but it’s one that has been difficult for me to do.
5″ x 7″ Graphite with Marker background to pop silhouette.
P.S. Yes, I went a little crazy with the horns.

Daily… Inspiration
I got a sketchbook of James Jean today, he was the cover artist for the Fables comics for some time. I find his work really inspiring.
I drew a few portraits with his style in mind.

Daily… Not an alligator
We saw the Princess Frog today, I was quite anamored with the alligator. I had planned on drawing one for today’s image, but while sketching, this guy came to be and I wanted to take him little further than the pencil sketch.

Daily… A creature portrait
I started a photo study tonight, took a break from that and sketched out this. Having some fun with a creature portrait, focused mainly on the shadow side trying to show form.
Hmm, I’ve been trying to work at higher resolutions, but looks like I didn’t catch how small this one was. I’ll have to keep an eye on that next time.

Daily… A creature portrait
After a day of sketching creatures in my sketchbook, I did this guy. I don’t much like him, I think I did better with my pencil today.

Daily… A portrait
Well I’m determined to really tackle drawing portraits. I find the face the hardest part of the human figure to draw, but I’ll try and not let that hold me back.
I’m leaving for vancouver tomorrow night, I’ll keep at the daily drawings, but I don’t know how frequently I’ll be able to post them.
